Social Media Tips for Pest Control: Why Consistency Beats Frequency Every Time – Jonas Olson

how often to post for pest control social media

The number one question I get all the time is how often to post.

People see my 140,000 followers on YouTube, my 62,000 on Facebook, my massive TikTok and Instagram followings, and they think I’m posting 10 times a day.

I’m not. And you don’t need to either.

Let me break down exactly how often you should be posting and why consistency matters way more than frequency.

If You're Just Starting Out: Once a Week

I think just like anything else, you want to start slow and then maybe ramp up after some time.

Especially when, there’s so much to unpack here. Your first video is just going to take you forever. Your first 25 videos are going to take you a long time to do in general.

That’s going to take you a long time to record them. It’s going to take you a long time to edit them. It’s going to take you a long time, maybe not a long time to post them because posting is pretty easy.

But again, just starting out, if you just did one a week, that’s where I would start.

At this point it’s quality over quantity, but at the same time, quantity will help us build the thing fast too. So there’s something to be said for quantity too.

But I think just talking about guys who are just starting out, once a week is fine.

Does It Matter When You Post?

We’ve played with that too. And it honestly doesn’t matter a ton.

You’ve got to think of when people are on social media too, like when they’re going to be scrolling.

Think of early in the mornings or lunchtime, before lunchtime. And then obviously the evenings work too.

Again, there’s going to be a ramp up period.

We’re posting five to seven times a week with short form and another two to three times per week with long form.

So again, it takes a lot of time to get there, but just start off slow because you want to make this so it’s fun and enjoyable.

It shouldn’t have to be super hard. Make it easy on yourself. Have fun with it, enjoy it, do what you have to work.

And then just, you can edit it yourself on your cell phone. You don’t need a bunch of crazy equipment, which we’ll talk about next, but just start slow.

You want to make sure that you want to enjoy doing this. You don’t want to just like become like a real job where you have to constantly like, “I don’t want to go do this.”

Make it fun, make it engaging for yourself or your team. Have your team go with you. Like make it fun. And then it gets way easier.

Your First 25 to 50 Videos Will Take Forever

Start out posting once a week. Then you can ramp up from there once you’ve learned it. Because it’s going to take a lot of time when you’re just starting out.

You don’t know how to really edit the videos. You don’t know how to film. It’s going to be bad. It’s going to be embarrassing. You’re going to really try to save yourself from embarrassment, but that’s still going to happen.

Again, like I said, the first 25 to 50 videos are going to take you a long time, but you’ll notice after every single video, you get better and better and faster and faster.

And pretty soon you can just rip off a video and within less than five minutes, get it edited real quick and get it posted.

So it gets easier. But again, just stick with it, for sure.

Improve One Thing Per Video

Something great I heard from Mr. Beast, and from his journey, obviously he’s the biggest YouTuber by far now. He said, just focus on improving one thing every single video.

And I think the same thing applies here. Just make the hook a little bit better. Just be a little bit more engaging. Maybe add better sounds and music and other things.

You Have to Become a Different Person

It’s weird because you almost have to become a different person.

There’s a book that I read that talks a lot about this, but you also have to become a different person. It’s weird, because you have to be very outgoing, especially for the hooks. You have to turn into a different human.

It’s really, really weird. You guys must seem super energetic, which I am usually anyway, but I’m more energetic for videos than I am in real life.

That’s hard to get used to at first, too. Having this big old loud voice as a hook, you’re like…

My videographer was like, “Hey, no, do it again, do it again.” I’m like, “Oh God.” And then it just takes some time to get used to it for sure.

You have to become a character.

How Often We're Posting Now (And You Don't Need to Do This)

I think we post on weekends too. I don’t know which days we’re not posting at this point.

I don’t honestly, like I showed you yesterday, I’ll pull up my TikTok and there’ll be like 3,000 new followers and thousands of likes. I just, I don’t keep up with it at this point. I have a team that does it.

Responding to Comments

I tried early on, and especially early on, make sure you respond to everyone. Make sure you respond to everyone as much as possible.

Thank them for commenting, even if it’s a stupid comment.

This is one thing I learned from Joe Rogan. When the channel gets really big, just post and go. Don’t go back and look. Because you don’t want to see the dumb stuff. You don’t want it to ruin your day.

And there’s so much shit that my friends go screenshot and send me. And it’s just going to ruin your day. I’m like, “Dude, why would you do this? Who cares?”

There’s so many people that just live in their basement, just scroll on and talk back. They’re going to comment. Don’t get wrapped up in that.

But early on, definitely thank them for watching. Even if it’s a dumb comment. But yeah, it helps the algorithm too.

They comment, leave a comment back. Even if it’s a bad comment, comment back because this will help grow your engagement, obviously.

And especially if your channel gets big and they don’t think you’re ever going to respond.

The Gary Vee Strategy

Gary Vee said this too. Gary Vee does this. He has another channel called Gary Vee’s Team.

So Gary Vee’s Team, when Gary Vee can’t respond, Gary Vee’s team is actually responding for him, but it says Gary Vee’s team. So there’s no shadiness there either.

Just try to respond as much as possible.

Can You Take Time Off?

I think you would get hurt.

Think of it as like a TV show, right? Especially when you’re young, whether it’s a cartoon or a show that you watch, it came on the same time, the same week.

Whether you post on Monday, Monday afternoon, next week, make sure you post on Monday afternoon. Because people will get accustomed to like, “Hey, you’re showing up.”

The same time every single week like you did back in the day of watching a cartoon or your favorite TV show. Friday night at 8 o’clock I have to be home to watch this thing.

It’s the same thing that your subscribers will tend to. When’s he going to put up the next one? When’s the next video coming out?

So just as far as cadence goes, that’s a guide. There is a non-negotiable there. The cadence has to be the same thing every single week.

With my team, it has to go out at these times.

The Real Secret: Pick a Cadence and Stick to It

It’s not so much like you have to post three times a day or whatever, but it’s more so like pick a cadence and stick to it.

That’s what I would say.

If it’s three times a week, five times a week, just make sure it’s the same three, five times every week.

Your audience will expect you. They’ll look for you. They’ll get used to when you show up.

And that consistency is what builds the momentum.

The Bottom Line on Posting Frequency

Start with once a week if you’re new. That’s totally fine.

Focus on making it fun and enjoyable, not stressful. Your first 25 to 50 videos will take forever, but you’ll get faster.

Respond to comments early on. It helps the algorithm and builds your community.

As you grow, you can ramp up to five to seven times a week like we do. But you don’t have to.

The most important thing is picking a schedule and sticking to it. Your audience needs to know when to expect you.

Post and go. Don’t read the comments when you get big. Just keep creating.
