Top Social Platforms for Pest Control Businesses: Why Facebook Still Wins (But LinkedIn Is the Sleeper) – Jonas Olson

top social platforms for pest control businesses

I get asked this all the time: “Jonas, what’s the best social media platform for pest control?”

People see my 140,000 followers on YouTube, my TikTok following, and they think there’s some secret platform I’m crushing on.

There isn’t. But there is a strategy.

Let me break down exactly which platforms actually matter for pest control companies and why you need to be on more than just one.

The Best Platform to Start With: Facebook

It depends what you want your outcome to be.

The first platform I’d start on would be Facebook. You’re just going to get more leads from Facebook in general.

But then you also want to be on TikTok. You want to be on YouTube. You want to be on every platform possible.

Because like anything else, the more everyone sees you, the more it helps your brand.

I would start with Facebook for sure, but then you can post across all channels at the same time with some software. I’d definitely start there.

How the Platforms Compare for Lead Quality

You’ve got to figure, it’s a TikTok algorithm. So when you do get viral content, when it does go viral, it’s not like it’s viral in your hometown, right? It’s viral across the country.

So it’s not segmented towards a specific area.

Whereas if it’s on Facebook, most of your friends are going to see it and your community is going to see it.

Kind of the same thing with YouTube. Unless you’re running ads, it kind of just goes to wherever. Wherever the algorithm takes them and the people who are engaging. So it could be across the country, could be across the world at this point.

Facebook is obviously more community involvement. More people are going to notice you on there. They’re going to know you on there.

That’s why I like to stay there because leads are just way more high quality there.

Don’t Sleep on Instagram

You can’t leave out Instagram either. Instagram is another really good one. We get a lot of leads through Instagram. It’s typically a younger crowd too.

The older crowd has more buyers. They’re definitely on Facebook, but we do still get a lot of leads from Instagram for sure.

What's the Easiest Platform to Grow On?

I think I just got in at the right time, honestly. There wasn’t a whole lot of pest control companies even doing what I was doing, doing videos at the time, especially on TikTok.

So my TikTok blew up fast.

It started off really slow, like anything else. It just started off slow. So it just takes some time, but then the algorithm caught pretty quick. Then once it caught the algorithm, then it was over from there.

YouTube was kind of the same way. No one was really doing it. I was the first one on the platform. And again, it started off slow, then you get one viral video, then all of a sudden you hit a viral video and a couple more go.

So it just takes time. I would just say start slow and then just work your way up to it.

Personal Page vs. Company Page

Definitely do it on your company page. Post some videos.

Obviously, guys see my stuff, I put on my personal stuff too, but most of my stuff is going to be on my business pages for sure.

When it goes to Facebook groups, that’s where I want to use more of a personal touch.

When you’re doing video like this, you want to run it through your business page and connect to the community. Get everyone to connect with you, watch you, engage. You’ll become the local celebrity over time.

You’ll be amazed at what it can do for your business.

People just start, even if they’re just watching your content and then someone will post in a group like, “I’ve seen this guy’s video 15 times” and they’ll say, “Oh, call this guy, call XYZ pest control,” just from doing video.

It’s not hard. Just got to pick up the camera and do it.

The Underrated Platform Nobody's Talking About: LinkedIn

This is probably where I even messed up. Talking with you guys early on and listening to all the podcast guys later, looking at lots of content, LinkedIn is just the spot to be right now.

And it’s crazy how fast you can grow on LinkedIn and how fast I’ve even started growing on LinkedIn.

I’m not even posting video yet. We’re just posting content and connecting to people.

I don’t know the LinkedIn algorithm as well yet. And not that I know the algorithm of any of them, but you start to get a feel for what’s working and what’s not working.

How I Figured Out the Algorithms

I remember my first video on TikTok and I didn’t understand why it went viral then. And viral means something different to everyone, right?

If we don’t do 10,000 on a post, like every post, it’s bad. So that viral video was like 100,000.

And I didn’t know why it worked. I was like, “That was the dumbest video ever.”

But then as I looked back at it, I was like, “Aha, I know why it worked.” I kind of figured out what they were looking for.

Kind of the same for LinkedIn, but with LinkedIn is like someone comments in there and then all their people see it. LinkedIn shows it to everyone.

So all of them will start viewing your stuff and it’s easy to connect with like-minded people.

Figure like, especially if you do a lot of commercial work, that’s the spot to be.

That’s where I probably was late to the party. But again, I figure it’s just really gaining traction the past few years too. And so I think that’s just going to be a spot to definitely double down on.

You Need to Be on Multiple Platforms

Something that I’m gathering here is that it’s not just one social platform.

You really should be putting at least some time and effort into all of them because ultimately all of those can drive leads. You can get in front of all of your customers across all the platforms.

And what’s cool is like, obviously when I say with TikTok and YouTube, it drives it to wherever the traffic is. We also have multiple locations.

So it’s making our brand bigger than just my town and states that we’re in. As we scale, it’ll only help our branding go further.

The Bottom Line on Social Media for Pest Control

Start with Facebook. It’s still the king for lead quality and local community engagement.

But don’t stop there. Post on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and especially LinkedIn if you’re doing commercial work.

You can use software to post across all channels at the same time, so there’s no excuse not to be everywhere.

It starts slow. Your first videos will probably suck. Mine did.

But you’ve got to pick up the camera and do it. Once the algorithm catches you, once you hit that first viral video, everything changes.

People will start seeing you everywhere. They’ll recognize your brand. They’ll call you just because they’ve seen your videos 15 times.

That’s the power of being everywhere.
